KLD's 2024 Highlight Reel

What an incredible year our team has had! I truly did not think that 2023 could be topped... and yet here we are! I spent a good chunk of time reflecting on our interior design firm's highlights and milestones from the year this past week, and I'm once again in my ooey gooey feels over all we've accomplished in 2024.

After a (not so quick) tally, I was shocked to see our design team completed 38 presentations, 12 furnishing installs, 3 market trips, and countless consultations and site visits over the past twelve months. I traveled to Florida, Houston, Austin, Dallas, Las Vegas, North Carolina, and Kentucky for work (and even took trips to Spain and New Mexico personally). My mind is truly blown... like, how did we have the time?!

I loved scrolling back through my camera roll and Instagram archive to create this 2024 highlight reel – and hope you get a kick out of this look back too.

Building Oklahoma

  1. "Building Oklahoma"

While there were so many highlights from 2024, I have to say, filming the pilot episode of "Building Oklahoma" with my builder husband (Scott McGregor, owner of McGregor Homes) and our best friends, and coincidentally co-workers, Leah and Steve, is likely at the top of my list. Our teams were sneakily filming the renovation of the Johnson's home in Norman during the final months of 2022 and beginning months of 2023. The completed episode aired on the Magnolia Network in August, and the feedback we received from our community was overwhelming... in the very best way! Thank you to everyone who took time to watch this pilot episode! While we're still waiting to hear if a full season will be picked up, both Scott and I feel so grateful for this experience!

If you missed seeing the episode live, you can still find it on HBO Max – just search "Building Oklahoma." And we'll begin sharing photos from the project at the top of 2025 – stay tuned!

Black Oak

  1. Black Oak

In April, our family finally moved into project Black Oak. As you may remember, I designed this house along with my home builder husband Scott for the Oklahoma Parade of Homes. While we definitely had our family in mind as we built the home, we were able to use this project as a playground for all my grand design ideas that I'd been dying to try out. In the end, Black Oak swept first place in all award categories, and it's truly the epitome of our signature KLD rustic modern style.

You've likely seen the full reveal over the past year, but some design details to call attention to are the stone walls in both the main bedroom and the dining room, the vintage windows used as built-ins in the living room, the incredible Calcutta Viola marble used in the kitchen, and the custom built bunk room with plaid wallpaper.

Heritage House by Kelsey Leigh Design Co

  1. Heritage House's First Birthday

We celebrated Heritage House's first birthday in August! Woo hoo! My goodness it's been so fun having a little shop in downtown Edmond alongside our e-commerce retail site (www.heritage-house.com). While it's been a year of refining processes and solidifying our vendor relationships and staple products, we've had some fun additions to what our store offers.

In June we launched our made-to-order furniture collection – you can now shop customizable upholstery furniture, including many of our most requested pieces from KLD projects (like the Reese swivel chair found in Daryl-Ann Denner's family room). And, we started offering complementary furnishing design consultations with an in-house designer. If you've got a space that needs furniture or decor, this service is for you! An hour-long consult gets you a list of Heritage House products that are selected specifically for your space and floor plan and 10% off your purchase. Pretty cool if I do say so myself!

  1. House Beautiful Whole Home

One of the most exciting highlights of 2024 was when House Beautiful magazine invited us to design the kitchen for their prestigious Whole Home showcase in Asheville, North Carolina. Being part of a group of eleven exceptionally talented designers and build teams collaborating on such a visionary project was truly an honor.

I drew inspiration from the serene beauty of the nearby Blue Ridge Mountains. Our goal was to craft a tranquil and elevated “unkitchen,” blending natural elements with innovative storage solutions to create a space that was as functional as it was beautiful. In addition to the main kitchen, we also designed a hardworking “dirty kitchen,” a secondary space that perfectly complements the primary kitchen. Both areas reflect our studio’s signature rustic modern aesthetic and thoughtful approach to design. This showcase was a true celebration of creativity and collaboration, and we were thrilled to be a part of it!

Unfortunately, the week of what would have been the big reveal, Asheville was hit by Hurricane Helene, and we had to evacuate the area before we even got to step foot in the completed home. Nonetheless, the photos of the project speak for themselves! You should definitely browse the entire Whole Home project to see my peers' incredible room designs as well! Each one blew me away!

  1. New Design Studio

Our new design studio is just about complete! Everything's up and running and we're literally just waiting for the go ahead to move on in! We'll be sharing the space with the McGregor Homes team (we used to office together before our team moved into the back of the Heritage House shop!), and will have a beautiful collaborative showroom up front for clients to see, complete with a working kitchen. More to come!

  1. Lighting Collection Coming Soon!

Speaking of more to come, and maybe what I should actually list as my number one highlight of the year... I've designed a lighting collection with Alora Mood / Kuzco Lighting! This is quite literally, a DREAM COME TRUE! I'm headed to Dallas market next week (January 6 - 8) and I can barely contain my excitement! I'll finally get to see the collection in person AND will be able to show you all the designs. I'm so stinking giddy! Be sure to watch for the reveal on Instagram!

Cheers to an incredible 2025! Happy New Year!
