Project Plaid Reveal Pt. 2

If you love plaid as much as we do, then you'll absolutely love the second Project Plaid reveal! In the part one reveal, we introduced you to this incredible Norman, Oklahoma renovation that was featured in our pilot episode of Building Oklahoma on Magnolia Network, where we blended tradition with fresh, modern updates for a multi-generational family home. Now, we're diving into more of the spaces that didn't make an appearance on the show, from the serene main suite addition to the grand entryway remodel. Let's take a look!

Ralph Lauren-inspired bedroom design

The Main Bedroom

This bedroom is all about cozy, Ralph Lauren-inspired vibes. As you step in, the statement piece is impossible to miss—the bold plaid headboard. We knew we had to incorporate plaid throughout this home, and this was a fun way to make it the star of the show. To keep the room feeling serene, we balanced the plaid bed with layers of soft neutrals and rich textures.

Cozy Reading Nook

One of the biggest joys of this project was incorporating the homeowner’s art collection. We placed an original landscape painting above the bed and styled the room with other cherished pieces. The couple's reading nook really came together thanks to a large scale oil painting that was already framed with a brass picture light and the cutest ottoman and slipcover chair combo.

Mixing Metal Finishes

Another standout detail? The mix of metal tones. We used pewter accents, which are making a comeback in the design world, and paired them with warm brass details. The contrast between the cool silver tones and the warm wood and green hues created a sophisticated yet inviting space. The result? A bedroom that feels both timeless and intimate—a true retreat for the homeowners.

Elegant primary bathroom renovation design.

The Main Bathroom

This ensuite is the definition of luxury. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by a stunning, shapely bathtub that immediately steals the show. The moody marble backdrop, unlacquered brass plumbing, and soft Roman shades all contribute to an effortlessly elegant feel.

We designed a spacious wet room with double shower heads, a built-in bench, and a convenient niche for bath essentials. The floors are a gorgeous leathered marble, adding a beautiful textural contrast to the space.

For the his-and-hers vanities, we opted for white oak cabinetry paired with Creme Marfil leathered marble countertops. It was a design risk—but one that paid off beautifully! The unlacquered brass fixtures will develop a rich patina over time, perfectly complementing the vintage-style sconces. Every detail in this bathroom was carefully chosen to create a space that feels both refined and relaxing.

The Entryway

The entryway is the first impression of the home, and we wanted to ensure it felt both welcoming and classic. We kept the home’s original curved staircase, updating the handrail, spindles, and stair carpeting to bring it into the present.

One of the standout pieces in this space is the homeowner’s antique bench. We love working with clients who have a passion for collected pieces, and this bench set the tone for the entire home’s aesthetic—a mix of timeless charm and modern livability.

Checkerboard tile in laundry room

The Laundry Room

Laundry might not be the most exciting task, but we believe the space should still be beautiful! This laundry room is packed with charm, thanks to its checkerboard tile and soft, minty blue-gray walls. We drenched the entire room in this color to create a cohesive and calming atmosphere.

Functionality was key here. We incorporated floating shelves for easy access, an apron-front sink for washing delicates or muddy shoes (that was actually repurposed from the original kitchen!), and a dedicated pet area beneath the folding counter. Often, pet spaces get overlooked, but we designed this nook specifically to fit the family’s dog crates—because every member of the household deserves a thoughtfully designed space!

The Powder Bath

This petite powder bath may be small, but it makes a serious statement! We combined vintage and modern elements to create a space full of personality. The mix includes an antique mirror, unlacquered brass fixtures, and a fluted modern light fixture—an unexpected yet perfectly balanced combination.

One of our favorite details? The wallpaper. It brings a bold, graphic touch to the space, proving that small rooms can still have big design moments.

The Study

A well-designed home office should be both inspiring and functional, and this study is a perfect example of that balance. The room already had beautiful wood paneling, but the dark stain felt too heavy. To breathe new life into the space, we painted the walls, cabinetry, and trim in a warm mushroom/putty color, creating a soft, inviting backdrop for the rich leather tones and antique furnishings.

One of the biggest questions we get from clients is whether we can work with their existing furniture—and the answer is absolutely yes! This study is a testament to that philosophy. We incorporated our client’s existing desk, lighting, and personal accessories, while introducing a new chair, rug, and sideboard to refresh the space. The shelves were styled using the homeowner’s books, artwork, and heirloom décor, ensuring the room felt both curated and personal. This collected and layered approach resulted in a study that is both sophisticated and deeply meaningful to the homeowner.

This project was all about honoring the home's history while elevating it for the next generation. Every detail—from the plaid headboard to the fixed metals—was chosen with the family’s story in mind.
