Welcome to the Sarasota Sunset primary retreat! This was one of my favorite spaces ever to design! Starting from floor plan, it was our job to create an inspiring space for rest and relaxation, while also planning for some pretty incredible his and hers closets for clients Kindsey and Conor (just you wait!).
But the room I'm probably most excited to share from this project is the main bathroom! I know, shocking! But let me tell you, this bathroom is top-to-bottom luxury. Keep scrolling, and have your "Pin It" button ready!

Cozy Coastal Main Bedroom
Since the main bedroom is directly off the Manatee River waterfront, we knew the view had to be the focus of the room design. Installing glass French doors was a must! These opened up to the owners' private bank-side patio, complete with a built-in fireplace – the perfect spot to drink wine and relax at the end of the day.
Beyond the incredible view, these windows provide the most incredible warm lighting for the suite – such a beautiful complement to the leather, seagrass, and bouclé textures we incorporated throughout the furniture. Doesn't this reading nook just make you want to cozy on up for a little cat nap?!
Coastal Luxury Bedroom Design
The crown jewel of the main bedroom is the woven rope bed frame. Our goal was to layer texture on texture to create depth and richness in this room. We complemented the natural frame with linen and heather grey bedding – since their french bulldog Frankie snuggles with them at night – a plush shag rug for maximum barefoot comfort, and a rounded bouclé chair.
We kept the lighting fairly simple. A brass tripod floor lamp serves as the main lighting for the space with a black clay lamp and elegant pearlescent shell disc pendants hung bedside adding supplemental lighting.
I'm thrilled with how peaceful and relaxing this space feels. It's both intimate and inviting. This room has it all!
Modern Coastal Bathroom Design
And now we're stepping into the main bathroom. There's a warmth that envelops you the moment you step into this space. I imagine you can instantly see why it's a fave from this project.
May we please have a moment for this bathroom view?! I mentioned in our last post that the dining room chandelier was one of many stunning fixtures we installed in this home... and I was not kidding! This abstract white rattan chandelier is one for the books, and I knew this would fit the coastal luxury vibe we envisioned for this spa-like bathroom. What do you think?!
Coastal Bathroom Vanity
Not to toot my own horn, but I had the idea to hang two pendant lights side-by-side over the the makeup vanity, and it's totally a moment! I chose a white alabaster hexagon light with a tall frame for an elegantly tapered look. These hang over a woven mirror, mimicking the bed styling.
We had a lot of fun playing with the tile and countertops in this coastal bathroom interior design. We knew we wanted to keep a natural white as the backdrop, but again, with texture on texture. We ended up using white jade herringbone on the floor, white Zellige on the shower walls, and a tiny pebble on the shower floor. Plus, peep that quartzite with subtle gray veins on the countertops – love!
The use of brass details, both in the plumbing and hardware, really help achieve that desired goal of relaxation, invigoration, and tranquility.
I am so excited for this couple to enjoy all the at-home spa days in store for them in their own little retreat. Fun fact, there's also a sauna, plunge pool, and the shower is a steam shower in this house – the ultimate health and wellness home!
His and Hers Closets
Down the hallway leading to the main bedroom, two beautifully designed walk-in closets are hiding – one for him and one for her.
Luxury Closet Design
Kindsey's closet is an absolute dream! We chose a warm neutral palette of white and wood as the backdrop for this luxury closet design. This made the most sense as we really wanted her incredible bags and shoes to be the main attraction in this space. To make sure they were fully on display, we installed custom lighting in the shelving throughout as a nod to museum quality displays.
Men's Closet Design
Getting to design a closet specifically for the gentleman of the house was such a treat! For Conor's closet, we used Tenino gray closet cabinets with a thin wood grain, black drawer backing, and matte black pulls – such a masculine men’s closet! Call me crazy, but I may like like the final result of Conor's closet more than Kindsey's – ha!
Kindsey and Conor's primary suite was so much fun to design, and I have so many more ideas for our next luxury build. If you haven't seen their kitchen reveal, you can read all about their modern coastal kitchen design!
