Welcome to our newest project – Urban Homestead! This is a beautiful home located on the outskirts of Norman, Oklahoma, on a small acreage bustling with chickens, horses, and two cute pups. The KLD team helped with the construction process and furnished the interiors. It is one of our firm favorites, and we love how it came together!

Rustic Modern Kitchen
The Urban Homestead kitchen is unmatched with its refined design and rustic accents. The black cabinetry and gold hardware and plumbing instantly gave the space a modern, moody vibe, while wooden barstools and eclectic styling lent itself to the KLD vintage modern style.
We incorporated texture into the space by plastering the cove range hood over a marble backsplash. Coordinating plastered pendant lights hung above the island for the perfect finishing touch.
Arches were a consistent motif throughout this project. In the kitchen, an arched inset glass cabinet displayed a collection of earthenware, and the wall of custom-designed cabinet doors, with a refrigerator and appliances hidden behind, also incorporated arches into the paneling. Such a subtle design choice made a big impact to the space.
Keep an eye out for arches in the living room and entryway furniture, too.
Urban Homestead Dining Room
The Urban Homestead dining room gave our furnishing team quite the challenge – one we were excited to take on! The dining room has two-story ceilings running 20 ft high. We wanted to create a space of intimacy for the family while dining with friends and family without using a chandelier that hung all the way from the top of the tall ceiling. We accomplished this by installing these really cool minimalist wall-mounted sconces with a 55" projection out over the dining table. We love these sconces because they create such a sculptural, architectural feel while giving it a sense of modernity. It also is the dictionary definition of our rustic modern style.
Some of my favorite elements of the space are the dark custom-made expansion dining table paired with these arched dining chairs. I love that the upholstered seating is comfortable but also beautiful to look at as it has this awesome woven detail on the back. The arched chairs will be available in our shop coming soon – stay tuned!
We wanted to stay true to our signature style of vintage modern, so we styled this reclaimed pine sideboard that has little ring pulls beside the dining set. This gives such a good vintage rustic element that juxtaposes all the modern elements in the lighting and chairs, and it is just so yummy!
The Entryway
The staircase is a big focal point when entering this home, and we wanted to create an entryway vignette that truly enhanced the architectural design while immediately introducing the natural elements that are rich throughout this home.
To complement, we styled a modern console cabinet (also with an arched detail) with textural and vintage decor, including a current firm fave – antique bells.
Powder Bath 1
This powder bath was seriously so much fun to create. For the flooring we opted for a black tile in a herringbone pattern, but used a beige grout for high contrast. This paired with the marble countertop and modern arched mirror were accented with vintage inspired lighting and plumbing. It's just so stinkin' cute!
The Living Room
2023 is all about texture, texture, texture! You can see how it layers into this space especially. We used upholstered furniture in velvet, bouclé, and linen fabrics alongside architectural and worn wooden accents. I love the way this space turned out! Especially with the pop of raisin in the swivel accent chairs.
Styling the Urban Homestead project was so much fun! Mostly because many of the accessories we used will be available in our eCommerce shop – coming this fall! You'll find earthen pottery, hand-carved wood pieces, bone beads, aesthetic coffee table books, and more. We filled the family's book cases and cabinets with our very favorite accents.
Get the Look
We'll be sharing part two shortly and unveiling the primary suite and laundry room! Trust me, you won't want to miss it!
